Weekend Bathroom Refresh
An illustrative example of a tired bathroom brightened with new sealant, grout care, a shower head and storage, without retiling.
The starting point
A 1990s family bathroom with sound white tiles, stained grout, mouldy sealant around the bath and bottles crowding every ledge.
The goal
Make the bathroom look clean and current without retiling, and slow down mould growth.
What was done
- Cut out the old silicone, cleaned and dried the joints, and applied new bathroom-grade sealant.
- Deep-cleaned the grout and evened the colour with a grout colourant.
- Swapped a scale-clogged shower head for a new one.
- Cleaned the extractor fan grille so the fan could work properly.
- Added a wall shelf above the bath for bottles.
- Replaced towels, bath mat and shower curtain in one coordinated colour.
The result
A clean, bright bathroom with organised storage. Better ventilation and fresh sealant mean mould returns far more slowly. Retiling was postponed.
